Reflective Journal for the month of October

The fourth assignment on producing video tutorial using Camtasia Studio was yet another opportunity for us to learn new things. Especially for me the very soft ware itself was new and did not know the existence of it till date. It was an eye opener for me to learn that video productions are done in several ways using the particular software.

The new skills that I have gained through this assignment are: Firstly, I have learnt how to prepare power point presentation in the software itself and then to save it and to go to ‘record the screen’ and select the area correctly for good presentation prior to recording the lesson. I came to know that without the proper area selection, half of the pictures and words are invisible when we later play the clip.  I failed several times in this part until I finally discovered that area selection is of utmost importance. Then I knew that we have to go to settings and enable the audio recording device to start the recording. Saving the clip after recording was yet another challenge that I came across since the dialogue box for saving are displayed occasionally and not all the time. However, I managed it after several inquiries to our friends and through self exploration. Unclear voice and so much of unknown disturbances of sound in the presentation had also frustrated me although I could minimize to some extent by fiddling here and there by clicking to audio enhancement under the heading ‘Edit’.  Next I have learnt how to import the clips and then to edit it by splitting and deleting the unwanted parts of the clip. It is also new for me to know that final production by saving in CD will not allow others to edit or delete the clips.

From the topic: ‘Use different word processing features to produce document’ the new knowledge that I have gained are: how to insert the shape in activity 2 and arrange the rings in cylindrical shape using the software GSP which is very useful in drawing Venn diagrams in Mathematics and to insert different mathematical equations which is very important for us as a teacher.  Using mail merge to write letters and invitation cards to multiple friends was an opportunity to refresh myself since I have learnt the same in Chiphen Rigpel Workshop in 2011 but did not get the opportunity to implement it so far. Activities like inserting two or more shapes and grouping them together, designing Invitation Cards, Certificates, first page of the newsletters page and power point presentation are at least familiar to me although I am not perfect in those areas.

All in all I have experienced and gained many new ideas and concepts through those assignments and I hope I will learn and get more enlightened in ICT as and when I will be exploring with the last materials uploaded by our sir very recently.

The third assignment was on creating interactive flash-based quiz using wonder share Quiz Creator. We were supposed to make 20 different questions having minimum of two questions each from nine different question types. Prior to opening the wonder share Quiz Creator soft ware, lots of thoughts and queries aroused in my mind. I wondered what could be the nine types of questions and how it could be done. I was really skeptical about how to add animated images, flash movies and sound effects to the quiz. I was really daunted to begin with it. However, I ventured through and discovered so many new things that I was ignorant in the past. 

This assignment has truly created an avenue for me to experience and learn more on how the software works wonders making the task easy and lively. By gradually exploring through with trial and error method I have gained a lot of insights on how to set questions of different types and to add animated pictures and flash movies accompanied by sound effect which serves like flesh to the bones. Having set questions and added all the pictures, movies and sound effect when I previewed it one by one I realized how amazingly those components are synchronizing, making the quiz more lively and wonderful. 

Moreover, I have learned to set feedback and points for each questions. Setting the time limit for each question is another important factor that I was reminded of since it is necessary in any kind of competitions. All in all every assignment comes to us with tough beginning serving as a blessing in disguise at the end. Do you agree with me friends?

Reflection on ICT

The first assignment on planning as group work has provided us an opportunity to plan and make teaching aids using information and communication technology. It was a sort of avenue for us to chat online and learn to use Google drive for planning and saving the document safely and conveniently. However, it was really very challenging for us to coordinate the work being in different places and without the proper facilities in place.

Further, I consider Assignment 2 on using Google forms as a new ray of the sunshine that has shone upon me. This is because I have collected quite a lot of new and useful information on ICT that I was ignorant until now. I have learned how to set questionnaire on nine types of questions which I was unaware in the past. Go to page based on answer features was found to be amazing. Amongst all the summary responses that we get at the end was found to really wonderful and encouraging. I have many more that I have learnt and experienced which I could not put it down in words. I found it very convenient to use in future to set any survey questionnaire. I have truly learnt a lot although I underwent through trials and tribulations until I could come out with the final ones.  

I really went through so much of hardships and troubles due to multiple reasons firstly due to my limited knowledge on the field and no one to turn to for help. In addition to that the recent heavy downpour accompanied by thunder and lightning in Rangjung has cut off all the power and internet lines and since then we are experiencing frequent disturbances and interruption both in power lines and internet lines even to this day.  This very issue has aggravated the problems and made me crazier.  

I addition, after the completion of my work and having shared to my friends,  I had to reset the questions all over again even after having received some responses since some of the friends have encountered problems in filling up my questionnaire. Finally, I shared my final questionnaire to about 15 to 20 friends but received the responses only from half of them due to one or some other reasons.  As the proverbial ‘No gain without pain’ however, I have gained new experiences and knowledge that has helped me to grow further professionally and intellectually.

The ICT skills and knowledge that we have gained so far has really enlightened us in the field of technology.
All the activities that we have done until now are inevitable for us as a teacher because all those helps in enhancing quality teaching and learning processes in the classroom situation.
